Welcome to the St. Gallen Sternenstadt 2026
From 26 November to 24 December 2026, the historic old town of St. Gallen transforms into a magical "Sternenstadt" (City of Stars). Around 600 gigantic, glowing stars stretch across the streets, bathing the UNESCO World Heritage Abbey district in an enchanting, festive light. The traditional Christmas market invites visitors to stroll, shop, and soak in the unique romantic atmosphere.

Program
The market opens on 26 November 2026. Craft and food stalls at Gallusplatz are open Monday through Friday from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Selected mulled wine and refreshment zones stay open later on weekdays (up to 9:00 PM or 10:00 PM). On Christmas Eve (24 December), the market closes early at 4:00 PM.
Tickets
Admission to the Sternenstadt and all open-air market areas is completely free of charge. No tickets or advance reservations are required to wander beneath the brilliant canopy of stars.

- Visit after dusk to see the light installation of 600 stars in its full, breathtaking brilliance.
- Wear warm clothing and comfortable shoes, as winter evenings in eastern Switzerland can be quite crisp.
- Use public transport to easily reach the city center and the old town area.
