Welcome to the St. Wendel Christmas Market 2026
From December 4 to 13, 2026, the historic old town of St. Wendel turns into one of the most atmospheric Christmas settings in Saarland. Around 150 beautifully decorated stalls line the streets near the town hall and the basilica, while the neighboring Mott area hosts a lively medieval market at the same time. This blend of classic Christmas charm and historical spectacle regularly places the market among the most beautiful Christmas markets in the German speaking world.
Highlights and Attractions at the St. Wendel Christmas Market
St. Wendel Christmas Market
At the heart of the old town, framed by the pedestrian zone, the town hall and the basilica, visitors find the classic part of the market. The lovingly decorated wooden stalls offer high quality crafts, traditional Christmas decorations, gift ideas and handmade one of a kind pieces. The air is filled with the scent of mulled wine, roasted almonds and hearty regional specialties. A large Christmas pyramid and festive lighting along the lanes create a warm and inviting atmosphere once evening falls.
St. Wendel Medieval Market
In the Mott area, time is turned back: craftspeople demonstrate long forgotten techniques such as blacksmithing, woodturning, basket weaving and felting, while camp groups bring medieval daily life to life with cooking fires, tents and everyday scenes. Jesters, minstrels and street performers wander through the lanes, a Czech artist ensemble provides musical performances, and both children and adults can try their hand at archery, axe throwing or tug of war. As evening falls, fire artists take over with spectacular fire shows, turning the market into a true spectacle.

Program and Schedule: What to Expect in St. Wendel
The market is open on all ten days, with the Christmas and medieval sections complementing one another throughout. A daily highlight is the evening round of the night watchman, who brings each market day to a fitting close. Additional stage performances featuring music and acrobatics, along with hands on activities for families, round out the program. Since individual features can vary from day to day, it is worth checking the current daily schedule from the town of St. Wendel before visiting.
