Welcome to Tewkesbury Medieval Festival 2027
On 10 and 11 July 2027, the historic English town of Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire transforms once again into a magnificent medieval spectacle. Tewkesbury Medieval Festival is widely recognised as Europe's largest free medieval gathering, attracting thousands of visitors, reenactors, traders and entertainers from across the world. Founded in 1984, the festival celebrates its 45th anniversary in 2027. The dates are officially confirmed: the festival is held every year on the second full weekend of July.
The Battle Reenactment: Heart of the Festival
The centrepiece of the festival is the breathtaking reenactment of the Battle of Tewkesbury, fought on 4 May 1471 as part of the Wars of the Roses. The Lancastrian forces led by Queen Margaret of Anjou and her son Prince Edward of Lancaster suffered a decisive defeat at the hands of the Yorkists. Prince Edward was killed during or shortly after the battle and is buried in the nearby Tewkesbury Abbey. The reenactment takes place on the original historic battlefield, with hundreds of costumed reenactors wielding authentic swords, polearms, longbows and cannons to recreate this pivotal moment in English history.

Tickets & Entry
Tewkesbury Medieval Festival is completely free to attend. No tickets are required. The festival is entirely volunteer-run and funded through donations. Donation buckets and QR codes are available on site. The only charge is parking: £10 per car per day, payable on the day.
Visitor Tips
- Arrive early as the site fills up quickly throughout the day.
- Follow the yellow festival signs from outside town to the official car parks; do not park on surrounding residential streets.
- Bring your own water, especially in warm summer conditions.
- Well-behaved dogs on short leads are welcome; bring your own water bowl for them.
- Tewkesbury Abbey, just a short walk from the main site, is well worth a visit.
- Book accommodation in Tewkesbury and the surrounding area well in advance.
