Welcome to the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival 2027
From 4 to 14 March 2027, Thessaloniki hosts the 29th edition of the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival (TiDF), one of Europe's most important documentary festivals. Dozens of feature and short documentaries from around the world are screened, many of them world, international or European premieres. The festival takes place both in cinemas across the city and online through the festival's digital platform.

Program
TiDF traditionally screens films at its home venues Olympion and Pavlos Zannas in the city center, as well as at the port cinemas Frida Liappa, Tonia Marketaki, John Cassavetes and Stavros Tornes, complemented by the Makedonikon theater. Screenings run daily from around 13:00 into the late evening, usually across several screens at once. The winner of the Golden Alexander in the international competition section automatically becomes eligible to submit for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. The full 2027 film program is typically announced in February.
Tickets
Tickets for physical screenings are available through the festival website and more.com; a single ticket usually costs 5 euros. Alternatively, a ticket package covering 10 screenings costs 35 euros. Students, unemployed persons, members of large families and people with disabilities receive free tickets for early screenings starting up to 15:30. Online screenings are booked separately through the platform online.filmfestival.gr.
Visitor Tips
- Tickets are issued online; a printed or digital ticket with a visible barcode is required for entry.
- Seats are not numbered, so arriving early secures better seating.
- No admission is allowed once a screening has started.
- The 10 ticket package is worthwhile for anyone planning to see several films, since it only applies to physical screenings.
- Screening venues are spread across the city center and the harbor, so allow enough time to move between cinemas.
