Welcome to the Tollwood Winter Festival 2026

From 24 November to 23 December 2026, Munich's Theresienwiese, the site of the Oktoberfest, turns into a festive winter gathering place. The Tollwood Winter Festival combines an alternative Christmas market with circus arts, live music and a socially engaged cultural program. More than 90 percent of the events are free to attend.

Highlights

  • Market of Ideas with around 200 stalls for handicrafts and fair fashion
  • Over 50 stalls serving organic certified street food from around the world
  • Three international circus and dance productions in the Grand Chapiteau
  • Gravity & Other Myths with "Ten Thousand Hours" (25 to 29 November)
  • Lewis Major with the dance production "Triptych" (2 to 9 December)
  • Galapiat Cirque with "Mad in Finland" (11 to 20 December)
  • Daily live concerts in the Hexenkessel tent
  • Grand New Year's Eve party with the traditional midnight waltz on 31 December

Program

The free area of the festival, including the Market of Ideas, opens Monday to Friday from 2:00 PM and on weekends from 11:00 AM. Under the motto "Made to move you", the Grand Chapiteau hosts three ticketed productions from contemporary circus and dance between 25 November and 20 December, with no show on 14 December. The Hexenkessel tent also offers daily live music from bands and solo artists. After a short Christmas break, Tollwood returns on 31 December with its grand New Year's Eve party and the traditional midnight waltz, starting at 7:00 PM.

Tickets

Access to the festival grounds and the Market of Ideas is free. Tickets are required for the Grand Chapiteau shows; prices start at around 24 euros (reduced) and go up to about 51 euros for the top category, with lower prices for children. Tickets also serve as a public transport pass on the day of the show within the MVV network. A separate ticket is required for the New Year's Eve party.

Visitor Tips

  • Book Grand Chapiteau circus tickets early, as popular dates sell out quickly.
  • Take the subway or other MVV public transport; the ride is included in the ticket price on the day of the event.
  • On busy days, allow extra time to walk from the station to the festival site.
  • Bring warm clothing, as large parts of the grounds are outdoors.
  • Weekday afternoons tend to be quieter for a more relaxed visit.
