The auction itself traditionally begins in the afternoon under the Halles de Beaune, the covered market building facing the Hôtel Dieu. Access to the auction room is limited and reserved for guests who have registered with the organizers in advance. Around the sale, the public festivities of Les Trois Glorieuses fill the town, starting the evening before at Clos de Vougeot and closing on Monday with the Paulée de Meursault.
