Welcome to Vienna Shorts 2027
From 25 to 30 May 2027, Vienna once again becomes a stage for short film. Vienna Shorts (originally VIS Vienna Independent Shorts) has been Austria's largest short film festival since it was founded in 2004, and its 24th edition presents around 300 productions under 30 minutes from around the world, screened across cinemas throughout the city plus an open air program at the MuseumsQuartier.

Program
The festival traditionally opens at Gartenbaukino on Parkring, one of the last large single screen cinemas in Vienna's city center, followed by an opening party in the foyer. During the festival, competition programs mainly run at Stadtkino im Künstlerhaus, METRO Kinokulturhaus and the mumok cinema, while the Austrian Film Museum hosts accompanying focus programs. The central hub for guests is the festival center at the MuseumsQuartier (Room D, Hof 8), which also hosts the mobile Milieukino and, on several evenings, a free open air screening in the main courtyard. The four competition categories (Fiction and Documentary, Animation Avantgarde, Austrian Competition, Austrian Music Video Award) lead up to an award ceremony on the final festival day.
Tickets
Vienna Shorts uses a pay what you can ticket model: single cinema tickets start at around 4 euros, and festival passes are available from about 20 euros; the exact pricing tiers for 2027 will be published closer to the festival. Admission is free for people under 19, holders of a Kulturpass and subscribers of certain partner cinemas. Tickets are available through the website and the Vienna Shorts app.
Visitor Tips
- Check the program in advance via the website or app, as popular screenings sell out quickly.
- The MuseumsQuartier is centrally located and easily reached by U Bahn line U2 (Museumsquartier station).
- In case of bad weather, the open air cinema moves to the Ovalhalle at the MuseumsQuartier.
- Bring a warm jacket for the open air program, screenings usually start around 9:30 PM.
- If you plan to see several programs, a festival pass is more affordable than single tickets.
