Welcome to the Vienna Wine Hiking Days 2026
On 26 and 27 September 2026, Vienna's vineyards turn into one big, freely accessible hiking area. During the Vienna Wine Hiking Days, winemakers around Kahlenberg, Nussberg, Bisamberg and Mauer open their Heurigen (wine taverns) along marked routes, letting visitors combine a hike, wine tasting and sweeping views over the city.

Program
Four routes are on offer. Route 1 runs about 10.8 kilometers from Neustift am Walde to Nussdorf in the 19th district and is the classic, most visited route. Route 2 covers about 9.6 kilometers from Strebersdorf to Stammersdorf in the 21st district, on the other side of the Danube. Route 3 goes through Ottakring in the 16th district (around 4.5 kilometers), and Route 4 through Mauer in the 23rd district (around 4.6 kilometers). Along the way, winemakers offer tastings from cellar and kitchen at numerous stops, with live music ranging from brass bands to small jazz ensembles at many Heurigen. Both days run from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Tickets
Taking part in the Vienna Wine Hiking Days is free; there is no entry ticket. Payment is made directly at the individual Heurigen and stalls for wine tastings, food and drinks.
Visitor Tips
- Wear comfortable walking shoes, as the routes cross uneven vineyard paths.
- Public transport is strongly recommended, since parking is limited in the wine growing areas.
- Route 1 is the most popular and gets crowded; Routes 2, 3 or 4 offer a quieter alternative.
- Bring cash, as not every Heuriger stall accepts card payment.
- When trying Sturm, the young fermenting wine, pace yourself; it is stronger than it tastes.
