Welcome to the Wachau Advent 2026 in Dürnstein
On four festive weekends between November 20 and December 13, 2026, the small Danube town of Dürnstein in the Wachau valley turns into a winter stage full of lights and music. The Wachau Advent is Austria's first and so far only floating Christmas market, taking place on a festively lit ship on the Danube as well as in the courtyard of the historic abbey and the inner courtyard of Dürnstein Castle. Set against the backdrop of the baroque old town, the famous abbey and the ruins of Dürnstein Castle, it creates one of the most atmospheric Advent settings in the entire Wachau region.

Visitor Tips: Travel and Accommodation in Dürnstein
- Dürnstein sits on the Danube between Krems and Spitz, so traveling by train to Krems and continuing by bus or boat is a good alternative to driving
- Late November and December evenings along the Danube tend to be cold and damp, so warm clothing is recommended
- As Dürnstein is a small town with limited accommodation capacity, booking a room in Dürnstein or nearby Krems well in advance is advisable
- Parking in the town center fills up quickly on market weekends, so an early afternoon visit is a good idea
