When is the Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2027?
The Wave-Gotik-Treffen (WGT) takes place for the 34th time in 2027, running from 14 to 17 May over the Whitsun (Pentecost) weekend in Leipzig, Germany. Held annually since 1992 (with the exception of the pandemic cancellations in 2020 and 2021), it is widely considered the world's largest gathering of the gothic and dark culture scene.
Where does the WGT take place in Leipzig?
The heart of the festival is the agra Messepark in the south of Leipzig (Bornaische Straße 210), home to the main stages and the famous Black Market selling gothic fashion, jewellery and crafts. Beyond that, the program spreads across more than fifty additional venues throughout the city: clubs, theatres, churches, museums and even the opera house open their doors for concerts, readings, films and exhibitions. Visitors in elaborate costumes become a familiar sight in the city centre, in parks and on trams throughout the weekend.

What exactly is the Wave-Gotik-Treffen?
The WGT is far more than a music festival. While concerts remain central, spanning gothic rock, dark wave, EBM, industrial and post punk to neofolk, medieval music and classical concerts, the program also includes readings, film screenings, theatre and variety shows, a Pagan Village, a medieval market and the Victorian Picnic in Clara Zetkin Park. Around 20,000 visitors travel to Leipzig for the event each year.
How do I get to the Wave-Gotik-Treffen and where can I stay?
Leipzig is easily reached by train (Hauptbahnhof) and via Leipzig/Halle Airport. Tram line 11 and several bus routes connect the city centre to the agra festival grounds. Accommodation options include camping directly at the agra Messepark (with a separate camping or motorhome ticket) or hotels and hostels across the city; since Leipzig fills up quickly over the Whitsun weekend, early booking is recommended.
How much do WGT 2027 tickets cost?
Ticket sales for 2027 have not yet opened on the official website; an order form will be published there once booking becomes available. For reference, the four day festival pass (valid for all official events and as a public transport ticket in Leipzig) has cost roughly between 130 and 190 euros in recent years. We will update this page as soon as official 2027 prices are announced.
Practical Tips for Visitors
- The festival wristband also serves as a public transport ticket in Leipzig on all festival days.
- Wristbands and program booklets are traditionally issued near the main train station and directly at the agra grounds; arriving early (for example on Thursday) helps avoid the longest queues.
- Costumes are part of the culture at WGT, from Victorian romantic to steampunk or cyber gothic.
- Museums and galleries in Leipzig often offer free entry or a special program for WGT visitors.
- Drivers need a green low emission sticker due to Leipzig's environmental zone.
