Program and Schedule: What to Expect at Stephansplatz
The market is open daily from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with shortened hours on December 24 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM on December 25 and 26. The focus here is on the cosy mulled wine stands and handicraft stalls rather than a dedicated stage program, unlike some of Vienna's larger Christmas markets.
Admission and What to Buy at the Weihnachtsdorf Stephansplatz
Entry to the Weihnachtsdorf at Stephansplatz is free of charge. Visitors only pay directly at the individual stalls for food, drinks and handmade goods.

- Since the square sits right in the city center, expect large crowds, especially on weekends
- Warm clothing is recommended, as part of the square is open and can be windy
- Accommodation in Vienna's city center should be booked well ahead during the Advent season
- A walk along Graben and Kärntner Strasse is worthwhile to see the city center's full Christmas lighting
Other Important Christmas Markets in Vienna
Christkindlmarkt at Rathausplatz
The Christmas market in front of Vienna's City Hall is one of the city's largest and most famous. For 2026 it runs from November 13 to December 26, daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and until 6:30 PM on December 24. Alongside numerous stalls, the Eistraum ice skating area in the adjacent Rathauspark is a permanent fixture, so weekends tend to draw very large crowds.
Weihnachtsdorf at Maria Theresien Platz
Set between the Kunsthistorisches and Naturhistorisches museums, the Weihnachtsdorf at Maria Theresien Platz runs from November 20 to December 26, 2026. With more than seventy stalls, it is one of Vienna's larger markets and benefits from its striking setting between the two landmark museum buildings.
Spittelberg Christmas Market
In the narrow lanes of the Biedermeier era Spittelberg quarter, a handicraft focused Christmas market runs from November 13 to December 23, 2026. The historic streets of Spittelberggasse, Stiftgasse, Schrankgasse and Gutenberggasse give this market a more intimate feel, away from the biggest crowds.
