Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026

A large central Christmas market on the Höheweg or in the Kursaal gardens is not expected to take place in 2026. Instead, the Holiday Region Interlaken offers a variety of smaller, charming markets and an extensive Christmas shopping experience. From 16 November to 24 December 2026, partner shops invite visitors for festive shopping. On 13 December 2026 there is a special Sunday opening from 11:00 to 17:00 with additional activities. On Advent Saturdays and the Sunday sale the free Advent carriage of the Voegeli Riding School operates.

Unterseen Christmas Market

From 20 to 22 November 2026 the Advent and Christmas market takes place on the Stadthausplatz in Unterseen. Decorated wooden chalets with Christmas goods, mulled wine, punch, bratwurst and Christmas music create a atmospheric old-town setting right next to Interlaken.

Experience Christmas Market Brienz

On 28 and 29 November 2026 the historic village centre and lakeside promenade of Brienz transform into an Experience Christmas Market. Crafts, wood carvings, a mini zoo, carousel, ice carving and musical performances await visitors. Opening hours: Saturday 12:00–21:00, Sunday 10:00–18:00.

Further Regional Markets

On 21 November 2026 the Winter Market takes place in the Pfrundscheune in Sigriswil. On 22 November 2026 the Schlatti Christmas Market at Biohof Schlatti in Schwenden and the Merligen Winter Magic Fair next to the tourist office in Merligen are held. On 28 and 29 November 2026 there is also the Christmas exhibition in Oey in the Diemtigtal. Further smaller markets in the region complete the offer throughout December.

  • Arrival by train to Interlaken Ost or Interlaken West is ideal; most markets and the centre are easily reachable on foot or by bus. By car, parking is available near the Höheweg.
  • Warm and weatherproof clothing as well as sturdy shoes are essential – it can be cold, windy and snowy in the Alps.
  • Book accommodation in Interlaken and the surrounding villages early, as the Advent season and mountain scenery are especially popular.
  • Combine a market visit with a trip to the Jungfraujoch or a lake cruise for unforgettable panoramas.
  • Visit in the evening when the lighting and mountain backdrop are particularly magical, and on weekdays for fewer crowds.
