Welcome to the Münster Christmas Markets 2026
From 23 November to 23 December 2026, the historical Old Town of Münster is transformed into a sparkling winter wonderland. Instead of just one single market, visitors can explore multiple Christmas markets situated on different historic squares, featuring over 250 beautifully decorated stalls combined. The festively illuminated streets and the aroma of mulled wine, roasted almonds, and regional delicacies make Münster a top destination for the Advent season.
Highlights
- The largest and oldest Christmas market around the historic Town Hall
- Lichtermarkt (Market of Lights) at the foot of St. Lamberti Church, featuring Münster's largest Christmas tree
- The traditional Kiepenkerl Christmas Market located around the famous monument
- Aegidiimarkt with its magnificent wooden pyramid and fairy-tale displays
- Giebelhüüskesmarkt set against the medieval backdrop of the Überwasserkirche
- An expected turnout of around one million visitors from Germany and abroad

Program
The markets generally operate from Sunday to Thursday between 11:00 AM and 8:00 PM, and on Fridays and Saturdays until 9:00 PM. The vast array of stalls offers traditional arts and crafts, toys, jewelry, and a wide variety of food (the Town Hall market consists of 70% crafts and 30% gastronomy). For a more relaxed experience, a visit during the weekdays is highly recommended.
Tickets
Admission to all Christmas markets in Münster's Old Town is completely free. Visitors can easily wander from one historic square to the next and soak up the unique atmosphere without needing any tickets.
Visitor Tips
- Due to the large number of visitors (especially on weekends), city center parking garages fill up very quickly. Arriving by train or using the Park & Ride (P&R) system is strongly advised.
- The Old Town is best explored on foot, as all major markets (Town Hall, Lamberti, Aegidii, Überwasser, Kiepenkerl) are within close walking distance of each other.
- Don't miss the chance to try local Westphalian specialties at the many food stands.
- Visit the Lichtermarkt after dark to fully appreciate the stunning blue-roofed stalls and the illuminated Lamberti Church.
- Note that some of the specific markets traditionally close a day or two before December 23.
