Welcome to the Alexanderplatz Christmas Market 2026 in Berlin

The Alexanderplatz Christmas Market 2026 opens with a new organiser and a completely new concept. C. Blume Vergnügungsbetriebe GmbH transforms the square beneath the TV Tower from 23 November to 26 December 2026 under the motto “Two worlds, one experience”. The market is open daily from 11:00 to 22:00, and on Christmas Eve from 11:00 to 14:00. Entry is free.

The two worlds are just a few steps apart. Around the Fountain of International Friendship (Brunnen der Völkerfreundschaft) you will find a traditional Christmas village with wooden huts, handicrafts and a sea of lights. At the World Clock (Weltzeituhr) an urban world awaits, with festively designed containers, international street food, an ice stock lane and a giant photo mirror. The whole market is step free, accessible and built with families in mind.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026

The market runs from 23 November to 26 December 2026, daily from 11:00 to 22:00. On Christmas Eve it closes at 14:00; on 25 and 26 December regular hours apply again. That makes Alexanderplatz one of the Berlin markets where you still get two full days of festive atmosphere after Christmas Eve.

The organiser describes the visit as a five stop walk: start at the Fountain of International Friendship with the evening show, continue to the charity tree, then to the still secret centrepiece, on to the World Clock with ice stock and photo mirror, and finish with street food. The square looks its best after dark, when fountain, lights and TV Tower glow together. Advent weekends get busy.

Do not confuse this market with Berliner Weihnachtszeit at Rotes Rathaus. The 50 metre panoramic Ferris wheel and the ice rink around the Neptune Fountain belong to the City Hall market, a few minutes’ walk away. Alexanderplatz itself offers ice stock, but no skating rink.

The traditional Christmas world at the Fountain of International Friendship

Lovingly decorated wooden huts surround the fountain, selling selected crafts, special gifts and seasonal treats. The three festively decorated lanes carry the names of Heinrich Zille, Alfred Döblin and Karl Friedrich Schinkel, bringing a piece of Berlin culture into the market. Every evening a light and music show turns the fountain into the highlight of the square. There is also a children’s carousel, places to linger and the charity tree. For photos, come at blue hour.

The urban Christmas world at the World Clock

At the World Clock the market shows its modern side: festively designed containers, minimal and warm, with no kitsch. International street food stalls serve vegan dishes, halal food and sugar free treats, alongside selected brands. The giant photo mirror stands right next to the clock and is placed so that the World Clock, the TV Tower and visitors all end up in the same picture. A 360 degree photo booth completes the picture. The World Clock is no longer just a meeting point; it is part of the market.

Ice stock lane on Alexanderplatz

Instead of funfair rides, the new concept focuses on playing together. The ice stock lane on synthetic ice needs neither cooling power nor water and works without any experience. It is accessible and can be played seated, ideal for friends, families and colleagues. Bookings are per hour; the organiser has not yet published the price. Dogs are not allowed on the lane, except assistance dogs. Groups planning an Advent weekend should contact the organiser early.

Charity: Christmas joy for children in Berlin

Part of the concept is social. Once a week, children from Berlin children’s homes are guests of honour at the market, with hot cocoa and sweet pastries. Social organisations get a hut free of charge to present their work. At the charity tree, visitors paint their own bauble and hang it up; all proceeds go to children in Berlin and, according to the organiser, will be publicly accounted for at the end of the season. A fixed share of the market’s revenue also goes to children’s causes.

Berliner Weihnachtszeit at Rotes Rathaus, 200 metres from Alexanderplatz

Next door between Rotes Rathaus, St. Mary’s Church and the Neptune Fountain, 10178 Berlin. Official 2026 dates are still pending on berlin.de (last season 24 November to 30 December 2025). Entry was free. This is home to the 50 metre panoramic Ferris wheel with enclosed gondolas, the ice rink around the Neptune Fountain, the Old Berlin market lane and historic carousels. Last season Santa arrived by sleigh three times a day. Play ice stock at the Alex, skate at City Hall, and you have the full Mitte loop. U5 Rotes Rathaus.

Winter market at the Humboldt Forum and Schlossplatz in Berlin

Confirmed: 18 November 2026 to 3 January 2027 in front of the Berlin Palace and in the Schlüterhof. Free entry. Crafts, regional food, carousels and a calmer feel than Alexanderplatz. A few minutes on foot from the Alex, making it the natural second stop. Current hours on berlin.de.

WeihnachtsZauber Gendarmenmarkt: the elegant neighbour in Mitte

2026 dates: 23 November to 31 December on one of Berlin’s finest squares, framed by the Konzerthaus and the German and French cathedrals. Unlike free Alexanderplatz, this market has charged a small fee in recent years (2025: 2 EUR, free on weekday lunchtimes); check the 2026 tariff on the market website. Quality crafts, a stage, a tall spruce. U2 and U6 Stadtmitte or U5 Unter den Linden, about a 15 to 20 minute walk from Alexanderplatz.

Winter World at Potsdamer Platz and Lichtenberger Winterzeit

If you want rides and sledging, head to Potsdamer Platz rather than the Alex: Winterwelt offers a sled run about 12 metres high and 70 metres long, Austrian huts and DJs at weekends. visitBerlin lists 2026 as expected from late October to late December, daily 11:00 to 22:00, Christmas Eve until 16:00; berlin.de still marks the dates as open. Direct from Alexanderplatz on the U2. For big fairground rides and a 55 metre Ferris wheel, add Lichtenberger Winterzeit.

Lucia Christmas Market at Kulturbrauerei and more from Berlin

Lucia at Kulturbrauerei (Prenzlauer Berg, Schönhauser Allee 36) runs from 23 November to 22 December 2026: Scandinavian courtyard, culture programme, intimate setting. Charlottenburg Palace and Breitscheidplatz on Kurfürstendamm are also an easy train ride from the Alex. A solid Berlin circuit is one day in Mitte (Alexanderplatz, Rotes Rathaus, Humboldt Forum) plus an evening at Gendarmenmarkt or Kulturbrauerei.

Tickets & Admission for the Alexanderplatz Christmas Market Berlin

Entry to the Alexanderplatz Christmas Market in Berlin is free; there is no day ticket for the square. You pay only for individual attractions such as the ice stock lane (booked per hour, price to follow) and the carousel. Food and drink are paid at the stalls, with cards accepted at most of them; there are cash machines on site. The new organiser has not yet published stall prices for mulled wine or street food. Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Berlin

• Getting there: Alexanderplatz station is right at the market (U2, U5, U8 and S3, S5, S7, S9), plus trams M2, M4, M5, M6 and buses 100, 200 and 248, with night buses N5, N8 and N65. There is no parking at the market, and the organiser explicitly recommends public transport. A Deutschlandticket or VBB day ticket covers all markets in Mitte.
• Accessibility: All paths are step free, wide and paved, suitable for wheelchairs and prams. Accessible toilets with baby changing are located at the fountain and at the World Clock. Assistance dogs are welcome everywhere.
• Weather and clothing: Open square, often windy and wet, rarely snowy. Bring sturdy waterproof shoes and an extra warm layer. Covered seating and standing tables are spread across the whole site.
• With dogs and kids: Dogs on a lead are welcome, just not on the ice stock lane. Children can enjoy the carousel and painting their own bauble at the charity tree.
• Where to stay: Mitte around Alexanderplatz, Hackescher Markt and Museum Island is walkable. Book Advent weekends early. For quieter nights, stay in Prenzlauer Berg or Kreuzberg and ride the U2 or U8 to the market in the evening.
• How to combine: Stroll the lanes at the fountain in the afternoon, catch the fountain show at dusk, then ice stock and street food at the World Clock. Walk on to Rotes Rathaus (ice rink and Ferris wheel) and the Humboldt Forum. The TV Tower (separate tickets) and St. Mary’s Church are right next door.
