Welcome to the Weihnachtsmarkt Bönen 2026 in Bonen
Weihnachtsmarkt Bönen 2026 is the community Christmas market of Bonen in the Unna district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, held at the listed Foerderturm winding tower of the former Koenigsborn III/IV colliery. It is organised by the non-profit association Hand in Hand Zusammen fuer Boenen e.V. Exact 2026 dates had not been published as of early September 2026; previous editions ran on the first weekend of December (6–7 December 2024 and 5–6 December 2025), typically from 12:00. Admission is free. Check zusammen-fuer-boenen.de before you travel: after 2025 the organisers also considered a possible two-year rhythm.
Highlights & Attractions at Weihnachtsmarkt Bönen in Bonen
- A compact Christmas village at the foot of the 60-metre Foerderturm, Bonen’s landmark and the “eastern pole of the Ruhr” with Mischa Kuball’s Yellow Marker light art.
- Wooden huts on the forecourt (17 stalls in 2025) plus indoor stands in the lit Schachthalle inside the tower, which stays usable in wind and rain.
- Local handmade goods: candles, crochet and knitwear, wooden decorations, personalised baubles, upcycling pieces and small gifts from clubs and residents.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026
Weihnachtsmarkt Bönen is a short local Advent weekend, not a month-long city market. Based on 2024 and 2025, stalls open in the afternoon and close in the early evening, with a separate indoor evening programme possible on Saturday. In 2024 the Saturday stage ran roughly from 12:00 to 20:00, followed by the RSV-and-friends Xmas Party. In 2025 outdoor stalls were cleared around 18:00, after which Hooks on the Ceiling and DJ Bolle played in the tower. The 2026 line-up has not been announced.
Past programmes have featured kindergarten groups (including Puzzlekiste and Martin-Niemoeller), the Flierich trombone choir, TuS Boenen sports acrobats, the Boenen-Nordboegge marching band, the Sunny Girls and the Protestant brass choir, plus Saint Nicholas and children’s activities in the winding-tower hall. Food and drink come from local clubs, and proceeds often support youth or community projects. Treat any 2026 stage times as unconfirmed until the association publishes them.
Tickets & Admission for Weihnachtsmarkt Bönen Bonen
Entry to Weihnachtsmarkt Bönen 2026 is free. There are no tickets and no box office. You pay only at stalls for food, drinks, crafts and Christmas trees. No official 2026 stall prices have been released. The association is not profit-driven; club takings often go to youth work. Updates appear on zusammen-fuer-boenen.de and via [email protected]. This market is not the parish Advent market at Bonen’s historic church tower, nor the municipal “Schattenwirtschaft – Christmas Edition” creative market in the Foerderturm – those are separate events.
Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Bonen
- Travel: Regional trains stop at Bonen station, about a 10-minute walk via Bahnhofstrasse and Wolfgang-Fraeger-Strasse. By car take the A2, exit Bonen, then Hammer Strasse, Bahnhofstrasse and Zechenstrasse (GPS: Alfred-Fischer-Platz 1 or Zechenstrasse). Parking is available on site and at the Goethe sports hall, indoor pool and town centre.
- December weather in the eastern Ruhr is cold, wet and often windy; in 2024 a gale forced stalls into the tower. Wear waterproof layers and sturdy shoes. Indoor stands in the Schachthalle offer shelter.
- Stay: Bonen is a town of about 18,000 people with few hotels. Book early in Unna, Kamen or Hamm if you need a room; most visitors come for a day trip.
- Bring cash: small volunteer stalls may not take cards. Confirm 2026 dates on the official site shortly before your visit.
- After dark, the Yellow Marker lighting on the tower is part of the setting. Guided climbs to the 55-metre platform are run separately by Foerderverein Zeche Koenigsborn III/IV and are not included in a market visit.
