Welcome to the Bremen Christmas Markets 2026
From November 23 to December 23, 2026, the historic center of Bremen turns into one of the most atmospheric Christmas settings in Germany. Around the UNESCO listed Rathaus and Roland statue, and along the Weser river promenade known as the Schlachte, stalls, lights and the scent of mulled wine and roasted almonds fill the air. Several smaller neighbourhood markets round out the picture, making Bremen one of the most varied Christmas destinations in northern Germany.

Program and Schedule: What to Expect in Bremen
The Bremen Christmas Market and the Schlachte Zauber both run from November 23 to December 23, 2026. Opening hours are Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 am to 8:30 pm, and Friday and Saturday from 11:00 am to 9:30 pm. The Schlachte Zauber opens on November 23 at 6:30 pm with fireworks over the Weser. In the pirate village, craftspeople in period costume demonstrate Hanseatic era trades, while the Marktplatz focuses on handmade crafts, sweets and activities for families.
Tickets and Admission for the Bremen Christmas Markets
Admission to every Christmas market covered here is free. Visitors only pay for food, drinks and goods at individual stalls. A few of the smaller special events, such as the craft market at Burg Blomendal, may occasionally offer certain activities on a donation basis, but general entry stays free throughout.

Winterwald in the Ansgari Quarter
On the Ansgarikirchhof in front of the historic chamber of crafts, the Winterwald turns a small square into a cosy winter light display. Illuminated fir trees, decorated wooden huts and glowing 3D animal figures make this a calmer alternative to the busy main market. The exact 2026 dates had not yet been confirmed at the time of research; in previous years the Winterwald opened in late November and stayed open into January, with hours running roughly Sunday to Thursday from noon to 8:30 pm and Friday and Saturday until 9:30 pm.
Findorff Winter Village
In Jan Reiners Park on Fürther Strasse in the Findorff district sits one of Bremen's longest running winter markets. Instead of traditional craft stalls, visitors find self built huts, warm lighting and a relaxed setting for mulled wine and small snacks, away from the crowds downtown. The 2026 edition is expected to open in mid November, and the village typically stays open well into January.
Burgfrieden at Burg Blomendal
In the Blumenthal district, Bremen's only surviving castle turns into a medieval style Christmas village on the third Advent weekend, December 12 and 13, 2026. Inside the Rittersaal, the Hoyersaal and across the castle grounds, numerous exhibitors sell handmade one of a kind pieces, while a family program with face painting and festive lighting keeps the mood cheerful. In past years opening hours ran roughly from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm on Saturday and 11:00 am to 6:00 pm on Sunday, with exact 2026 times still to be confirmed by the organizers.
Lichter der Neustadt
On the left bank of the Weser, between the bremer shakespeare company and the Südbad, the Kulturkraken association runs a different kind of Christmas market called Lichter der Neustadt. Round, brightly lit tents host a changing lineup of vendors selling handmade textiles, jewelry and design pieces, paired with art, culture and music away from the biggest crowds. The exact 2026 dates had not been published at the time of research; in previous years the event ran through late November and December.

- The city center is well served by bus and tram via the Brill, Domsheide, Obernstrasse and Schüsselkorb stops, with Bremen Central Station close by
- For the Schlachte Zauber, stops along the Weser promenade work best, and a lit walking path along Böttcherstrasse connects both main markets
- Late November and December in Bremen usually bring cool, often damp weather, so warm layers and weatherproof footwear are worth packing
- Accommodation in the old town, the Schnoor quarter or the Viertel keeps you close to the main markets and should be booked early given the high number of visitors
