Welcome to the Bremerhaven Christmas Market 2026
From November 23 to December 30, 2026, the pedestrian zone in downtown Bremerhaven turns into a sea of festive lights. Around the neo Gothic Große Kirche and along Bürgermeister Smidt Straße up to Theodor Heuss Platz, stalls, fairground rides and hundreds of decorated fir trees invite visitors to stroll through the city center. Admission to the market is free, making it a popular destination for families from across the region.
Highlights and Attractions at the Bremerhaven Christmas Market
- About 65 festively decorated market stalls between Theodor Heuss Platz and the Große Kirche
- A large Ferris wheel on Theodor Heuss Platz offering views over the illuminated city center
- Almost 200,000 LED lights, walk through light installations and glowing stars that double as popular photo spots
- Classic carousels and fairground rides for children and families
- A free supporting program including an ice climbing wall, fire and laser shows and walk act performers
- Maritime touches in both decoration and food offerings as a distinctly Bremerhaven feature
- A large Christmas tree, donated each year by a local family, forming the centerpiece of the market
Kleine Weihnachtswelt on Theodor Heuss Platz
From Friday to Sunday, an additional craft market called Kleine Weihnachtswelt opens on Theodor Heuss Platz, offering handmade gifts and winter treats. It adds a quieter, artisan focused corner to the main market and is open on Advent weekends, Friday from 3 to 8 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 8 pm.
Concerts and Program at the Große Kirche
The Große Kirche itself regularly hosts concerts during Advent, including performances by the local Bach choir and brass ensembles in past years. The exact dates and full program for 2026 had not yet been published at the time of research and are typically announced on the official website shortly before the market opens.
A Note on the Historic Medieval Market
In some previous years, an additional medieval style market with historic crafts and staging was set up in the area behind and next to the Große Kirche. This feature was dropped for cost reasons in earlier editions and has not appeared in the officially published programs of recent years, including 2025. Whether a similar area will return for the 2026 edition has not been officially confirmed at this time. Visitors who specifically want this feature should check the current announcements from Erlebnis Bremerhaven GmbH before planning their visit.
