The market traditionally opens on the Friday before the first Advent Sunday and closes on the second Advent Sunday. Opening day usually runs from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, while the following days are typically open Monday to Thursday from noon to 8:00 pm and Friday to Sunday from noon to 9:00 pm. The opening is marked by the Snow Queen's lantern parade along Eisenbahnstraße and Weinbergstraße to the Marktplatz, where the mayor and Santa Claus jointly open the market.
