The Christmas market on the Marktplatz in front of Lüneburg's elaborately decorated Gothic town hall is the centrepiece of the Weihnachtsstadt. Children can ride the carousel and join in the traditional Knusperhäuschen (gingerbread house) raid on the fourth Sunday of Advent. Weihnachtsmarkt bei St. Johannis Lüneburg 2026 – Intimate Advent Market Under Giant Christmas Ornaments

Just steps from Am Sande, the small square in front of the imposing St. Johannis church hosts one of Lüneburg's most characterful Christmas markets. The large trees on the forecourt are hung with enormous baubles and bright advent stars that are visible from a distance.
