Welcome to the Saarlouis Christmas Market 2026 in Saarlouis
From mid November through December 23, 2026, the Kleiner Markt in the historic fortress town of Saarlouis once again turns into a winter village of wooden huts. More than 50 beautifully decorated stalls, a large ice rink and a cosy Alpine style hut welcome visitors from Saarland, neighbouring France and Luxembourg for a festive stroll through the season. The exact opening and closing dates for 2026 will be published by organizer Familie Spangenberger on the official website in autumn 2026.

The market typically opens daily from Sunday to Thursday between 11am and 10pm, and from 11am to 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Christmas Eve traditionally sees a shorter midday opening only. Most stallholders come from Saarland, neighbouring Lorraine and Rhineland Palatinate, with a strong focus on regional products.

The Saarbrücken Christkindlmarkt runs from November 16 to December 23, 2026 around the historic St. Johanner Markt and Bahnhofstraße. More than 80 stalls offer handicrafts, Christmas decorations and regional delicacies. Signature features include a two story alpine hut, a festive Christmas pyramid and the popular flying Santa, who glides above the market on his reindeer sleigh each day telling the story of Rudolph. Saarbrücken is about a 20 minute train ride from Saarlouis.
St. Wendel Christmas and Medieval Market: Two Worlds in One Old Town
From December 4 to 13, 2026, the St. Wendel Christmas and Medieval Market combines a classic Christmas market of around 150 stalls around the town hall and basilica with a lively medieval quarter known as the Mott, where jugglers, minstrels and craft demonstrations such as blacksmithing and felting create an experience apart from the usual holiday bustle. According to the city, the market ranks among the ten most beautiful Christmas markets in the entire German speaking world and is easily reached from Saarlouis by car.
Homburg Nikolausmarkt: Tradition on the Historic Marketplace
The Homburg Nikolausmarkt on the Historic Marketplace celebrated its 50th edition in 2025, running from November 21 to December 7 with a specially produced drone light show. The exact dates for 2026 have not yet been officially confirmed, but the market traditionally returns in late November and the first two weeks of Advent. Around the twelve meter Christmas tree and the central mulled wine hut, visitors can enjoy a colorful stage program featuring choirs, orchestras and live bands.
