Welcome to Sleeping Beauty Castle Christmas 2026 in Torgau
In the run up to Christmas, the Renaissance castle Hartenfels in Torgau turns into a fairytale illuminated setting. Under the name Sleeping Beauty Castle Christmas, the city of Torgau invites visitors to the historic castle courtyard for one Advent weekend, inspired by the classic East German fairytale film Sleeping Beauty, which was filmed right here.
Highlights and Attractions at the Torgau Castle Christmas
- A festively illuminated castle courtyard set within early German Renaissance architecture
- Stalls offering handcrafted goods, mulled wine and festive treats around the courtyard
- A Christmas concert in the castle church opening the weekend
- The Great Wendelstein staircase and other historic castle rooms bathed in festive light
- A communal Christmas carol singing event in the castle chapel
- Special exhibitions inside the castle and the city museum with a festive theme
- Specially designed mulled wine mugs with a changing fairytale motif, popular as collectibles
Program and Schedule: What to Expect in 2026
The event traditionally takes place on the third Advent weekend, running from Friday afternoon through Sunday evening. Alongside the market in the castle courtyard, concerts, a carol singing event and exhibitions in the castle and city museum round out the program. The exact 2026 dates and detailed schedule have not yet been finalized and will be published by the city of Torgau ahead of the Advent season.
Tickets and Admission for the Torgau Castle Christmas 2026
Admission to the market in the castle courtyard is free. Some special exhibitions inside the castle may charge a separate entry fee, while others remain free to visit. Mulled wine and festive food are available for purchase at the stalls.
