Welcome to the Wolfenbüttel Christmas Market 2026 at Schlossplatz
From 24 November to 23 December 2026, the historic Schlossplatz in Wolfenbüttel hosts one of Lower Saxony's most atmospheric Christmas markets, open daily from 11:00 to 21:00 with free admission throughout. The Wolfenbüttel Christmas Market has a history stretching back to 1585, making it one of the oldest festive markets in northern Germany. Set against the backdrop of the second-largest castle in Lower Saxony, the half-timbered Altstadt and the historic Zeughaus, the market fills the city centre with the scent of mulled wine, the sounds of brass bands and the glow of hundreds of market stalls.

The main market at Schlossplatz runs daily from 11:00 to 21:00 for the full four-week period, from 24 November to 23 December 2026. The craft market inside the Kommisse opens on all four Advent weekends: Fridays 15:00 to 20:00, Saturdays 11:00 to 20:00 and Sundays 11:00 to 18:00. The adjacent Adventshof operates on the same weekends: Fridays 16:00 to 21:00, Saturdays 15:00 to 21:00 and Sundays 15:00 to 20:00. Musical acts rotate throughout the season, and the children's programme runs daily with special highlights on weekends when St. Nicholas and Father Christmas pay their visits.

- By train: Wolfenbüttel is directly connected to Braunschweig by rail with frequent services; the journey takes around 15 minutes. From Wolfenbüttel station, Schlossplatz is a 10-minute walk through the historic centre.
- By car: The city is located south of Braunschweig on the B79. Parking in the immediate city centre is limited; using multi-storey car parks near the Altstadt is recommended.
- Plan around Advent weekends: To experience both the Kunsthandwerkermarkt and the Adventshof in addition to the main market, plan your visit for one of the four Advent weekends.
- Dress warmly: The entire market takes place outdoors. Winter clothing is especially important for evening visits, when temperatures at the open Schlossplatz drop significantly.
