Welcome to the Weilburg Christmas Market 2026 in Weilburg

The Weilburg Christmas Market 2026 turns the baroque market square of the former residence town of Weilburg on the River Lahn into a glowing village of wooden huts. The town of Weilburg has confirmed two weekends: 11–13 December 2026 (third Advent weekend) and 18–20 December 2026 (fourth Advent weekend). Around 45 decorated chalets stand under a canopy of lights next to Weilburg Palace; admission is free.

The market is closed from 14 to 17 December 2026. Visitors who come earlier in Advent can also look for the wildlife-park market at Tiergarten Weilburg and smaller village markets in the districts of Odersbach, Kirschhofen and Gaudernbach.

Weilburg Christmas Market 2026

The main Weilburg Christmas Market occupies only the historic Marktplatz. The square was laid out between 1703 and 1711 around the Neptune fountain; the town and palace church close the eastern side, and Weilburg Palace stands immediately beside it. Strings of lights form a tent-like roof overhead — in 2025 some 50,000 LED bulbs were used.

About 45 wooden huts (the city’s 2026 figure; 2025 saw a record 54 stalls) sell handmade jewellery, wool and leather goods, wreaths, wood décor and crafts. Food and drink include roasted almonds, waffles, crepes, mulled wine, children’s punch, potato spirals, fries, currywurst and game sausages. A children’s carousel runs on the square, and local choirs and clubs provide live music. The organiser is the Magistrat of the City of Weilburg, Mauerstrasse 6–8, 35781 Weilburg.

Opening hours 2026 (city stall regulations): Friday 17:00–22:00, Saturday 13:00–22:00, Sunday 13:00–20:00. The ceremonial opening is traditionally on the first Friday around 18:00, often with the mayor and the character Princess Henriette. Check weilburg.de for the final stage timetable.

Christmas Market at Tiergarten Weilburg 2026

The Christmas market inside the wildlife park “Tiergarten Weilburg” returns in 2026 on the second Advent weekend. The Friends of the Wildlife Park have confirmed that weekend, which falls on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December 2026. Exact 2026 hours had not been posted at the time of writing; in 2025 the market ran from 11:00 to 19:00 both days.

The 2025 debut featured 13 stalls among the animal enclosures. It is a small, family-oriented market combined with a park visit. Standard park tickets apply in 2026: adults EUR 8, children aged 4–17 EUR 4, children under 4 free, family day ticket EUR 22. Follow signs to Tiergarten Weilburg; the park is open 365 days a year. Confirm hours on hessen-forst.de or wildpark-weilburg.de before you travel.

Christmas Market Odersbach 2026

In the district of Odersbach the Protestant parish of Weilburg traditionally hosts a small Advent market at Christuskirche. In 2025 it took place on the first Sunday of Advent from 15:00. The 2026 date had not been published; it usually falls on the first Advent weekend. Expect a neighbourhood gathering, often with a short service or music, and no admission fee. Watch the city calendar at weilburg.de and evangelisch-in-weilburg.com.

Christmas Market Kirschhofen 2026

Kirschhofen’s Christmas market sets up in front of the village community hall. In 2025 it opened on the Saturday of the second Advent weekend from 15:00, often with a devotion and a visit from St Nicholas. The 2026 date was not yet official and typically lands on an early-December weekend. It is a compact, free village market run by local clubs. Final times appear in Weilburg’s Advent listings.

Christmas Market Gaudernbach 2026

Gaudernbach, another district of Weilburg, holds a Christmas market on the village square (in front of “Schnüri”). In 2025 it started at 15:00 on the Sunday of the second Advent weekend. No official 2026 date had been released. Look for club stalls, mulled wine and a short village evening. Check Weilburg’s public notices shortly before you go.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026

The Weilburg Christmas Market 2026 runs on weekends only. Friday evening (17:00–22:00) is the after-work opening, Saturday (13:00–22:00) is the busiest full day, and Sunday (13:00–20:00) stays calmer and more family-oriented. Huts are closed between 14 and 17 December. The official opening on Friday 11 December 2026 follows the usual pattern: speeches on the square, lights and the first live music.

During market hours the Weilburg tourist association usually offers lantern walks and the Christmas city tour “Weilburg zauberhaft” (in 2025 typically at 16:00 or 17:00 from the market square). Advent concerts take place in the palace church. Weilburg Palace is open in winter Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00–16:00 (closed 24–26 December and 31 December–1 January). The 2026 stage and concert timetable will be posted closer to the date on weilburg.de and oberlahn.de. Twin towns sometimes bring food stalls with regional specialities.

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Weilburg

  • By train: Weilburg station is on the Lahn Valley line; the market square is about a 10–15 minute walk. The Hesse day ticket or the Deutschland-Ticket are cost-effective. By car use the B49 / B456; the market square itself is closed on market weekends.
  • Park in the Rathaus, Innenstadt or Hainallee garages (about EUR 1 per hour). On market weekends short-stay bays (Schlossplatz, behind the town hall, Ueber dem Hainberg) are often free — still display a parking disc. A repeat of this 2025 rule is likely for 2026 but not guaranteed.
  • Mid-December temperatures in Weilburg usually sit between 0 and 6 °C, with damp air, valley wind and possible frost. Wear sturdy shoes, layers and gloves; the square is cobbled and can be slippery.
  • Stay within walking distance at Schlosshotel Weilburg, Hotel Zur Krone or old-town guesthouses. Weilburg is small, so book both Advent weekends early. Limburg an der Lahn and Wetzlar (about 20–30 minutes) are useful overflow bases.
  • Pair the evening market with an afternoon in the palace garden, the mining and town museum, or (on 5–6 December) the wildlife park. Families get the most from Saturday afternoon because of the carousel and children’s programme; for a quieter stroll come on Sunday or at 17:00 on Friday.
