Other Notable Christmas Markets in Vienna
Beyond Rathausplatz, Vienna offers several other Advent markets with a distinctly different character and setting.
Christmas Market at Schönbrunn Palace
In the Ehrenhof courtyard of Schönbrunn Palace, a more compact and festively lit market with around 90 stalls runs from November 6, 2026 to January 6, 2027. The enclosed imperial backdrop gives it a calmer, more intimate feel compared to the large and busy Rathausplatz. It is open daily from 10 am to 9 pm, until 4 pm on December 24, and from 10 am to 7 pm from December 25 onward, with free admission.
Spittelberg Christmas Market
Spread across the narrow historic lanes of Stiftgasse, Schrankgasse, Spittelberggasse and Gutenberggasse near the Museumsquartier, this smaller market focused on arts and crafts runs from November 13 to December 23, 2026. It opens from 2 pm to 9:30 pm on weekdays and from 11 am to 9:30 pm on weekends and public holidays. The market is also promoted as an especially sustainable event with local and organic offerings.
Altwiener Christkindlmarkt at Freyung
On the historic Freyung square in the city center, a particularly traditional market centered on craftsmanship, nativity scenes and ceramics opens from November 14 to December 23, 2026, daily from 10 am to 9 pm. Just a short walk away, the Am Hof Christmas market opens already on November 13, making the two locations easy to combine into one city center stroll.
