Welcome to the Vienna Festival 2027

From 14 May to 20 June 2027, Vienna once again becomes a stage for contemporary art with social and political relevance. The Wiener Festwochen | Free Republic of Vienna is one of Europe's most significant cross over festivals, bringing theatre, performance, music, dance and film to more than a thousand venues across the city. In 2026 the festival celebrated its 75th anniversary with around 200,000 visitors; 2027 marks the next regular edition.

Highlights

  • Large free opening event on a central Vienna square
  • International theatre and performance productions at over 1,000 venues
  • Contemporary dance, music and film alongside the main stage program
  • Festival hub with discussions, concerts and parties
  • Discounted U30 tickets for visitors under 30
  • A socially and politically engaged program featuring international artists

Program

The full 2027 program of the Wiener Festwochen is traditionally announced in spring. In previous editions, the festival always opened with a free public event on a central square; recent editions used Rathausplatz and Heldenplatz. Alongside major theatre and opera productions, the program regularly includes performance art, contemporary dance, concert series such as the Academy Second Modernism, and a festival hub with exhibitions, discourse formats and music running late into the night. Most evening performances start between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM.

Tickets

Ticket sales usually open in spring through the festival's webshop, by phone, at the box offices or via oeticket.com. Visitors under 30 can get tickets for 15 euros per show through the "U30 Vermehrt Schönes" offer. Evening box offices sell discounted tickets from 10 euros, subject to availability. The opening event and many discussion formats are traditionally free to attend.

Visitor Tips

  • Arrive early for the free opening event, as the square fills up quickly.
  • Bring valid ID if you are under 30 to claim the U30 discount.
  • Since venues are spread across all of Vienna, plan your program in advance by show and neighborhood.
  • Use public transport, as many venues are located in the city center.
  • Book popular productions early, as they tend to sell out fast.
