Welcome to the Humboldt Forum Winter Market 2026 in Berlin

The Winter Market at the Humboldt Forum turns Schlossplatz, in front of the reconstructed Berlin Palace, into a winter set of crafts, light art and baroque stone from 18 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. It is run by Wollenschlaeger Event GmbH across three zones: Schlossplatz, the inner Schlüterhof and the Spreeterrassen facing Berlin Cathedral. Opening hours are 11:00–22:00 daily. The market is closed on 22 November 2026 (Totensonntag / Sunday of the Dead) and 24 December 2026 (Christmas Eve). Admission is free.

More than 150 stalls sit between Museum Island, the Lustgarten and a skyline that takes in the cathedral and the TV tower. Glassblowers, potters and woodcarvers work in public. Historic rides stay in scale with the square. After dark, façade video mapping and laser shows take over. U5 Museumsinsel is about a one-minute walk, which makes this one of the easiest winter markets to reach in central Berlin.

Highlights & Attractions at the Humboldt Forum Winter Market in Berlin

• Free entry every day from 11:00 to 22:00 on Schlossplatz, in the Schlüterhof and on the Spreeterrassen – except Totensonntag and Christmas Eve.
• Live craft: glassblowing, pottery and woodcarving on site, plus leather, wooden toys, painting and winter accessories.
• Façade illuminations by Böhlke (the Festival of Lights team) and the laser show “Emotions in Light and Sound” on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 18:00 and 20:00.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026

This is a historic city-centre winter market, not a loud fairground. Daytime is for craft demos, carousels and stollen; after dusk the architecture becomes the show. Capital Laser Berlin runs free laser performances on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 18:00 and 20:00. visitBerlin places the earlier show in the Schlüterhof and the later one on the Spreeterrassen façade; the official market site lists both times on the Spreeterrassen exterior. Walk-acts and unplugged musicians move through the lanes. The children’s programme changes daily; family days often cut ride prices on the historic carousel. Food runs from Berlin classics (mulled wine, fire-tongs punch, sausage, chimney cake) to vegan plates and international stalls. In 2025/26, mulled wine started around 4 EUR for 0.2 litres plus about 3 EUR cup deposit, sausage at 5 EUR; 2026 prices had not been posted at the time of writing. Groups of ten or more can reserve space in the Schlüterhof. Café Alexander and Brasserie Wilhelm host indoor Christmas parties. Combine the market with the Humboldt Forum itself only on museum days: exhibitions run Wednesday–Monday 10:30–18:30, closed Tuesdays, on separate tickets.

Schlossplatz is the main stage: 150-plus stalls, historic rides and views of the Lustgarten and Berlin Cathedral. Most craft huts and the big special builds – punch theatre, themed bars, champagne bar – sit here. Video mapping is produced for these reconstructed palace walls. Crowd-control fences along Karl-Liebknecht-Straße are standard Berlin security; the square itself stays a free stroll. If you have one evening, start here and move into the Schlüterhof once the façades light up.

Schlüterhof inside the Humboldt Forum

The Schlüterhof is the palace’s inner baroque courtyard and the most intimate part of the Berlin winter market. Sandstone walls hold stalls, Berlin Feuerzangenbowle, light installations and Café Alexander / Brasserie Wilhelm. Projections work best here because the court is enclosed. Corporate and group bookings concentrate in this yard. The Humboldt Forum sculpture hall and video panorama open from the Schlüterhof (portals 1 and 5), so a museum-plus-market afternoon is easy while the house is open.

Spreeterrassen facing Berlin Cathedral

The Spreeterrassen run along the east side of the Humboldt Forum, opposite the cathedral, with views of the TV tower and the Nikolaiviertel. Fire pits, a heated catering tent (Berlin dishes à la carte or as set menus) and laser on the outer façade make this the evening strip. Tent bookings go through Sodexo / Restaurant Wilhelm Alexander. For photos of market, dome and laser together, stay after 20:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

WeihnachtsZauber at Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin

A short walk southwest is Berlin’s best-known premium market: WeihnachtsZauber at Gendarmenmarkt, 23 November to 31 December 2026. White star-topped tents, gourmet cooking, indoor crafts and a daily stage in front of the concert hall and the German and French churches. Hours (visitBerlin): Sunday–Thursday 12:00–22:00, Friday–Saturday 12:00–23:00, shorter on Christmas Eve, until midnight on New Year’s Eve. Unlike the Humboldt Forum market, evening entry is usually charged (about 2 EUR in recent seasons, with free weekday afternoon windows – confirm 2026 on the market site). Under-12s were recently free. Best same-day pairing: Schlossplatz first, Gendarmenmarkt after.

Berliner Weihnachtszeit at Rotes Rathaus

Northeast, a walk via Molkenmarkt or Alexanderplatz, the city’s classic “Berlin Christmas Time” market usually fills the square in front of the Red City Hall: a large Ore Mountain pyramid, traditional huts, often ice or winter-sport extras. 2026 dates were still unpublished on berlin.de in September 2026 (last season ran into 30 December). If you want a more traditional market after the palace lights, check berlin.de/weihnachtsmarkt close to travel. Alexanderplatz (Ferris wheel, party hut) also had no confirmed 2026 window yet.

Christmas market at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church

The City West counterpart has confirmed dates: 23 November 2026 to 3 January 2027 on Breitscheidplatz, beside the ruined Memorial Church. Pyramids, dressed trees, a classic Advent stroll between Kurfürstendamm and the Europa-Center. Reach it on U2/U9 Zoologischer Garten or the S-Bahn. Pair Humboldt Forum and the West on one Advent weekend via U5 plus S-Bahn; entry here is typically free. Mulled wine in City West has often sat above Mitte prices in past seasons.

Charlottenburg Palace Christmas Market

berlin.de lists Schloss Charlottenburg for 2026 from 23 November to 27 December. Baroque palace façade, park next door, more family and photo than laser show. U7 Richard-Wagner-Platz or a bus from the Zoo. Treat it as its own half-day, not a bolt-on to Schlossplatz – the distance is greater than Gendarmenmarkt or the City Hall. Spandau’s old-town market (23 November to 22 December 2026) is the westernmost alternative with a medieval square feel.

Tickets & Admission for the Humboldt Forum Winter Market Berlin

Entry to the Winter Market at the Humboldt Forum is free; there is no gate ticket for the square. You pay for food, drinks, rides and optional museum tickets. 2025/26 guide prices: mulled wine from about 4 EUR (0.2 l) plus around 3 EUR deposit, sausage 5 EUR, vegetarian flatbread from 3 EUR, candied apple 3 EUR. 2026 prices may rise; reusable cups with deposit are standard. Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Berlin

• Getting there: U5 Museumsinsel (1 minute). Buses 100, 300 and 147 (Museumsinsel / Berliner Schloss). Trams M4, M5, M6 at Spandauer Straße / St. Mary’s. S Hackescher Markt about 10 minutes on foot, S/U Alexanderplatz about 15. Drive only as a last resort: Q-Park Unter den Linden / State Opera. A Deutschland-Ticket or BVG 24-hour ticket covers market-hopping.
• Weather and clothing: Schlossplatz is an open square with wind off the Spree and Karl-Liebknecht-Straße. Waterproof shoes, a scarf and spare gloves. The Schlüterhof and the Spreeterrassen tent are the warm pockets; laser shows are short but feel long in January.
• Where to stay: Mitte around Hackescher Markt, the Nikolaiviertel and Unter den Linden is walkable. Advent weekends and New Year 2026/27 sell out early in Berlin. U5 hotels near Alexanderplatz or Rotes Rathaus keep the walk home short when the market runs to 22:00.
