Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Groningen

  • Arrive by train at Groningen Central Station and walk or take a short bus ride to the A-kwartier (approximately 10–15 minutes).
  • Wear warm, weatherproof clothing and non-slip shoes, as the quays and decks can be cold and damp in December.
  • Book accommodation in the city centre or A-kwartier early, as the weekend is very popular.
  • Visit during the day or on Friday afternoon to explore the ships at a more relaxed pace.
  • Combine your visit with the Wintergoud market route and the Winterstad programme on the Grote Markt.
