Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026

The central Wittenberg Christmas Market on the market square forms the heart of the Advent season. In addition to the daily market activities, there is a colourful stage programme on weekends and selected days. Santa Claus and St. Nicholas regularly visit the market. The romantic atmosphere is enhanced by the historic architecture and the proximity to the Luther sites.

Christmas Market of the Clubs

From 4 to 6 December 2026 the Christmas Market of the Clubs takes place on the church square at St. Mary’s Church. Local clubs present handmade gifts, home-baked treats and activities for children. Opening on Friday at 16:00 with the mayor and joint singing. The market ends on Sunday evening with a communal Christmas carol. Opening hours: Friday 16:00–20:00, Saturday and Sunday 13:00–20:00 or 18:00.

Advent Festival at Luther’s House and Courtyard

From 11 to 13 December 2026 the Advent Festival at Luther’s House and Courtyard invites visitors to the Lutherhof. Regional traders offer handmade gift ideas. There is music, theatre, light shows, creative activities and culinary specialities. The atmospherically lit historic setting of the Lutherhof provides a quieter, more contemplative alternative to the main market. Admission is free.

Market of Beautiful Things

On the first Advent weekend (expected 27 to 29 November 2026) the Market of Beautiful Things takes place in the Cranach Courtyard. Artists and craftspeople from the region and beyond present high-quality unique pieces in the historic rooms and courtyards of the Cranach Houses. The market offers special Christmas gifts and culinary treats in an authentic Renaissance atmosphere.
