Welcome to the Wolfgangseer Advent 2026 in St. Gilgen

The Wolfgangseer Advent takes place from 20 November to 20 December 2026 in the three villages around Lake Wolfgangsee – with a special focus on St. Gilgen. The Mozart village transforms into a baroque Advent world with lovingly designed stalls, giant candles and breathtaking views of the lake and mountains. Admission is free. Opening hours in St. Gilgen: Wednesday limited offer on the lake promenade (13:00–19:30), Thursday and Friday 11:00–19:30, Saturday and Sunday 10:00–19:30. Closed on Monday and Tuesday (exceptions on 7 and 8 December).

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026

The Wolfgangseer Advent connects three lakeside villages: St. Gilgen with its baroque staging, St. Wolfgang with candle and torchlight, and Strobl as a nativity village. In St. Gilgen the artistic decorations by Raja Schwahn-Reichmann take centre stage – sculpturally painted figures and colourful scenes of the Advent season. Regular free guided tours, Advent wreath making, traditional fire jumping and musical evenings take place. The Wolfgangsee boat service links the markets (Wednesday to Sunday) and allows an atmospheric change between the villages. In addition the SchafbergBahn offers Advent rides up to the Schafbergalm.

In Strobl visitors find an oversized nativity landscape on the lakeshore and a living nativity scene. In St. Wolfgang solid wooden stalls, open fireplaces and the unique Salzkammergut nativity with life-size figures shape the atmosphere. Admission to all Advent markets of the Wolfgangseer Advent in St. Gilgen, St. Wolfgang and Strobl is free of charge. Costs only arise for food, drinks, optional boat trips or the SchafbergBahn. A 3-in-1 boat ticket for single boarding and disembarking at all three landing stages costs around 31 euros for adults. Lantern boat trips and further offers are bookable separately. Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in St. Gilgen

• Arrive by train to Salzburg or Bad Ischl, then bus line 150 directly to St. Gilgen. By car via the A1 (exit Thalgau or Mondsee). Sufficient parking is available in the village.
• Warm, weatherproof clothing and sturdy shoes are advisable – it can be cool and windy by the lake. Layered clothing is recommended for the evening hours.
• Book accommodation in St. Gilgen or neighbouring villages early, as Advent weekends are very popular. Many hotels offer packages including boat and train rides.
• Best arrive by boat or switch between the villages – the lights from the water are especially magical. Enjoy the lantern and candles on the shore at blue hour in the evening.
