Zakopane, at the northern foot of the Tatra Mountains, is one of Poland’s most popular places to spend New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. From 31 December 2026 to 1 January 2027 the town mixes daytime skiing with nightlife on Krupowki and a traditional open-air gathering on Gorna Rowien Krupowa. The city and the Zakopane Cultural Centre usually stage a free outdoor concert; the official 2026/2027 line-up had not been published at the time of research.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027

On 31 December 2026 most visitors ski, ride up Gubalowka or Kasprowy Wierch, or walk the decorated streets by day. In the evening the public focus shifts to Gorna Rowien Krupowa, a few minutes on foot from Krupowki. In recent editions gates opened around 18:00, music started at 19:00 and the show wrapped up near 01:30. A highlander prologue usually opened the night, followed by folk, pop hits and a midnight countdown. Check zakopane.pl for the confirmed 2026/2027 timetable once the city releases it.

Hotels, guesthouses and inns run their own dinners, balls and sleigh parties in parallel. Zakopane does not organise an official fireworks display. A year-round ban on fireworks and firecrackers in public spaces has been in force since a 2019 city resolution, to protect wooden architecture, visitors and wildlife in Tatra National Park. Some tourists still set off pyrotechnics illegally; that is prohibited and can lead to a fine.

Tickets & Admission for New Year's Eve Zakopane

Entry to the municipal open-air event on Gorna Rowien Krupowa has been free in recent years, with no ticket required. Paid options cost more: restaurant New Year’s Eve dinners recently converted to about 185 euros per person, sleigh-and-bonfire packages around 200 euros, and multi-night hotel packages with half board and a ball several hundred euros. Zloty prices vary by venue and booking date. Reserve tables and rooms directly with the hotel, restaurant or via zakopane.pl. The public concert itself normally needs no paid ticket.

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Zakopane

• Arrive by train or bus via Krakow (about two hours). On 31 December expect road closures in the centre, including parts of Kosciuszki Street. Parking fills early; walk or use a shuttle.
• Late December is cold, often around minus five to zero degrees Celsius, with snow and wind. Pack layers, sturdy winter boots, a hat and gloves; add ski gear or swimwear for the slopes and thermal baths.
• Lodging for New Year 2026/2027 is already on sale and often sold only as a multi-night package (commonly 27 or 29 December 2026 to 2 or 3 January 2027). Book early, especially near Krupowki and Gubalowka.
• Do not bring alcohol or pyrotechnics onto the mass-event site. Keep valuables close; Krupowki is extremely crowded that night.
• For a calmer midnight, choose Gubalowka, a hotel ball or a sleigh ride instead of the densest stretch of the promenade. Use the slopes and thermal baths early on 1 January before crowds return.
