Program and Schedule: What to Expect in 2026

The festival opens on Thursday at 6 PM with the Grönemeyer tribute band Bochum. Friday brings the traditional opening ceremony from 5 PM, accompanied by the band CHP, followed by a welcome address from Bamberg's mayor as festival patron. Saturday from 2 PM features Männersache and the Chicolores, while Sunday winds down from 11 AM with breakfast, the duo Hörenswert and finally the Beatles cover band The FabFive.

Food and Drink at Zwiebeltreterfest

True to a festival rooted in Bamberg's gardeners quarter, much of the food centers on the onion: onion cake, a skewer stew and pumpkin soup share the menu with coffee, cake and fresh waffles. Regional cold drinks, Mahrs Bräu beer and seasonal Federweißer round things out. Admission to the entire festival remains free.

Visitor Tips: Travel and Surroundings in Bamberg

  • Böhmerwiese sits on Heiliggrabstraße between Luitpoldstraße and Memmelsdorfer Straße and is best reached on foot or by bicycle
  • There is no parking directly at the festival site, the nearest garages are Tiefgarage Post and Tiefgarage Luitpoldeck, both about a five minute walk away
  • Mid September in Bamberg tends to be mild and sunny, so light clothing works well, with a jacket for cooler evenings
  • Given Bamberg's popular old town, visitors planning to stay overnight should book accommodation well ahead
