Welcome to Bachfest Leipzig 2027
From 10 to 20 June 2027, Leipzig, the city where Johann Sebastian Bach worked as Thomaskantor for 27 years, becomes the center of early music. The Bachfest Leipzig takes place in 2027 under the theme "Passion" and brings world class performers, renowned ensembles and young talents to the original places where Bach lived and worked. The festival was founded in 1908 to mark the unveiling of the New Bach Monument and has existed in its current form since 1999.

Program
The Thomanerchor Leipzig traditionally opens the Bachfest with a concert in St. Thomas Church. Throughout the festival, concerts take place across numerous historic venues such as St. Nicholas Church, the Gewandhaus, the Bach Museum, the Alte Börse and the Mendelssohn House; in previous years the program included more than 150 events. Alongside major orchestral works such as the Mass in B minor, the festival regularly features chamber concerts, organ music and formats for younger audiences. The full 2027 program will be published in spring.
Tickets
Advance ticket sales for Bachfest 2027 open on 24 November 2026 through the Bach Archive Leipzig website. In recent years, ticket prices ranged from around 20 to 120 euros depending on the concert and seating category, with reduced rates for students and other eligible groups. No ticket is required for the motets at St. Thomas Church; the program booklet is sold for a small fee right at the entrance.
Visitor Tips
- Book tickets early, as popular concerts at St. Thomas Church and the Gewandhaus sell out quickly.
- Explore Leipzig on foot, since the main venues are close together in the historic old town.
- Take a break between concerts at one of the traditional coffee houses where Bach himself once performed.
