Welcome to Carnaval de Águeda 2027
From 6 to 9 February 2027, the Portuguese city of Águeda transforms into a vibrant festival of colour, music and joy. Carnaval de Águeda is one of Portugal's most charming carnival experiences: colourful street parades (corsos), elaborate costumes, samba rhythms and the distinctive atmosphere of the historic city centre make this a truly special event for visitors of all ages. All outdoor carnival events are free of charge.

Program
The centrepiece of Carnaval de Águeda is the Corso do Domingo Gordo parade on Sunday, 7 February 2027. The procession traditionally starts in the early afternoon from Rua Joaquim Francisco de Oliveira and winds through the main streets of the city centre, ending at Largo do Mercado. Thousands of spectators line the streets as schools, associations, dance groups and costumed participants from across the municipality celebrate together. Throughout the full carnival week (6 to 9 February), Bailes (carnival balls), street entertainment and concerts are organised by the Câmara Municipal de Águeda and the Associação Sol Nascente.
Tickets & Entry
All outdoor carnival events are free to attend. Individual carnival balls held indoors may charge a separate admission fee. The full programme for 2027 will be published on the official Câmara Municipal de Águeda website in the weeks leading up to the event.
Visitor Tips
- Plan your visit around the Domingo Gordo parade (7 February); the best spots along the route fill up quickly.
- Águeda is located between Aveiro and Coimbra; travelling by train (Comboios de Portugal) is a convenient option.
- By car: parking is available around the city centre; arriving early is recommended.
- Wearing a costume is warmly encouraged and very much part of the carnival spirit.
- Book accommodation in Aveiro or Coimbra (roughly 30 minutes away) as Águeda itself has limited hotel capacity.
- The 2027 programme will be published from December 2026 at cm-agueda.pt; check back regularly for updates.
