Welcome to the Tegernsee Valley Montgolfiade 2027
From 30 January to 7 February 2027, the sky above Lake Tegernsee fills with color once again. Now in its 26th edition, the Tegernsee Montgolfiade brings together balloon teams from Germany, Austria and Switzerland for one of Germany's most beautiful winter events. Set against a snowy Alpine backdrop, hot air balloons launch from Sonnbichl, the Warngau airfield and the Oswaldwiese in Rottach Egern.

Program
Depending on the weather, hot air balloons launch daily in the morning and sometimes again around midday from sites around the lake. The meeting point for passenger flights is around 8:30 AM in Bad Wiessee; the exact time is confirmed by email the evening before, depending on conditions. A full balloon experience, including setup, the flight and transport back, takes about three hours, with roughly one hour and 15 minutes of actual flying time. The week's highlight is the balloon glow, when the burners are lit in time with music as darkness falls, accompanied by live music on the lakeshore. The full supporting program with food stalls and music is expected to be published in autumn or winter 2026.
Tickets
Advance booking for passenger flights opens on 1 October 2026 through the Tegernsee tourist information offices and online at tegernsee.com/ballonfahrten. A balloon flight costs from 280 euros per person; reservations are not possible, and tickets are sold on availability. Anyone wanting to gift a flight before 1 October 2026 can buy a Tegernsee voucher, redeemable in person at the tourist offices. Watching from the ground along the lake promenade and launch sites is free.
Visitor Tips
- Book balloon flights early, as spots fill up quickly.
- Bring warm, winter ready clothing, since launches happen outdoors early in the morning.
- Travel by Bayerische Regiobahn (BRB) to Gmund, then continue by RVO bus to Bad Wiessee.
- Bad weather can cancel launches or move the balloon glow to another location; check for daily updates online from 8 AM.
- The lake promenade in Bad Wiessee offers the best photo spots.
