Welcome to the Nockherberg Starkbierfest 2027

From 26 February to 21 March 2027, the Paulaner am Nockherberg in Munich hosts its legendary Original Strong Beer Festival. For more than three weeks, visitors can enjoy pure Bavarian conviviality: the full-bodied Paulaner Salvator, hearty Bavarian cuisine and authentic Oktoberfest atmosphere with the SÜDHERZ band. The Nockherberg Starkbierfest is Munich's unofficial fifth season and one of the city's most cherished traditions.

Highlights

  • Traditional Salvator tapping with the famous Politician-Derbleck'n as the opening act
  • Cabaret artist Maxi Schafroth as Brother Barnabas in monk's robes (since 2023)
  • Live broadcast of the Salvator tasting on BR television and ARD Mediathek
  • Three weeks of strong beer enjoyment with original Paulaner Salvator
  • Live music from the Oktoberfest band SÜDHERZ from the Schottenhamel tent
  • Bavarian delicacies prepared by chef Florian Lechner and his team
  • Beautiful beer garden open in good weather

Program

The festival opens with the traditional Salvator tasting and the renowned Politician-Derbleck'n: cabaret artist Maxi Schafroth takes on the role of Brother Barnabas and delivers sharp, humorous commentary on Bavaria's Prime Minister and invited politicians from all parties. The tapping ceremony itself is reserved for invited guests only, but everyone can watch it live on BR television or stream it via the ARD Mediathek.

From the weekend after the Salvator tapping, the Nockherberg opens its doors to all strong beer fans. Celebrations continue until 21 March 2027. Monday to Friday, the first seating begins at 4:00 PM; on weekends from 11:00 AM. A second seating starts at 4:30 PM each day. Closing time is 10:30 PM.

Tickets

Walk-in tickets are available at the door for €22.50, subject to availability. Queuing is possible during busy periods. Advance reservations via the official ticket shop are strongly recommended, especially for weekends. Beer token packages are also available: ten tokens for one litre of Starkbier or a non-alcoholic alternative, priced at €225.00 per package. Every admission ticket includes one beer token worth €15.40, handed out at the entrance.

History

The Starkbierfest traces its origins to the Paulaner monks of the 17th century, who brewed an extra-strong, high-calorie beer to sustain themselves through the lean weeks of Lent. This liquid bread became known as Salvator. Today, the Bavarian Prime Minister holds the honour of tapping the first barrel, taking the place of the historical Elector. In return, he must endure the traditional Derbleck'n, a Bavarian term for the good-humoured but pointed satire directed at those in power.

Visitor Tips

  • Reserve in advance, especially for weekends, as tables sell out quickly.
  • Arrive by U-Bahn (U1/U2 Kolumbusplatz) or tram; parking nearby is very limited.
  • Wearing Tracht or Dirndl is welcome and fits the traditional atmosphere perfectly.
  • Arrive on time: reservations are held for only 15 minutes Monday to Thursday, and 30 minutes on Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Beer tokens are valid only during Starkbierfest 2027 and cannot be redeemed or exchanged afterwards.
  • In fine weather, the beer garden on the premises is an excellent spot to enjoy the Salvator outdoors.
