From 26 November to 23 December 2026, the picturesque Old Town of Freiburg im Breisgau transforms into a glowing winter village. Set along the famous Freiburger "Bächle"—the historic small water channels running through the streets—the market offers a unique experience focused on traditional craftsmanship and authentic Black Forest charm.

Program
The market spans several squares in the Old Town and is open daily from 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM (Sundays 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM). Visitors can watch artisans, including glassblowers and traditional Black Forest woodcarvers, working live at their stalls. The small water channels are festively illuminated, providing a magical backdrop for a cozy winter stroll.
Tickets
Admission to the Freiburg Christmas Market is completely free of charge. As the market is spread out over the streets and squares of the Old Town, no tickets or reservations are required to enjoy the festive atmosphere.
Visitor Tips
- Watch your step around the "Bächle" (water channels)—local legend says if you accidentally step into one, you will marry a local from Freiburg.
- Visit in the early evening when the lights from the stalls reflect beautifully in the water channels.
- Use public transportation (trams), as parking in the historic Old Town is very limited.
